For nearly a decade Garak has longed for just one thing -- to go home. Exiled on a space station, surrounded by aliens who loathe and distrust him, going back to Cardassia has been Garak's one dream. Now, finally, he is home. But home is a world whose landscape is filled with death and destruction. Desperation and dust are constant companions and luxury is a glass of clean water and a warm place to sleep.
Ironically, it is a letter from one of the aliens on that space station, Dr. Julian Bashir, that inspires Garak to look at the fabric of his life. Elim Garak has been a student, a gardener, a spy, an exile, a tailor, even a liberator. It is a life that was charted by the forces of Cardassian society with very little understanding of the person, and even less compassion.
But it is the tailor that understands who Elim Garak was, and what he could be. It is the tailor who sees the ruined fabric of Cardassia, and who knows how to bring this ravaged society back together. This is strange, because a tailor is the one thing Garak never wanted to be. But it is the tailor whom both Cardassia and Elim Garak need. It is the tailor who can put the pieces together, who can take a stitch in time.

Review Summary: Couldn't put it down.
Review: This book aptly parallels the actor's own unique and talented screen career. The background given the character in the book plausibly describes who Garak is, as both the tailor, and the Obsidian Order agent. Mr. Robinson has a very clear picture of Garak in his mind, which he graciously shares with us in this gripping and entertaining book. His writing style immediately struck me as being the unmistakable voice of Garak from the show. His clear portrayal of the other characters puts you right into their minds. There is a poignant plot line with many twists and turns that, inevitably, make up Garak's personality. Great read for any Garak fan.

Review Summary: Pulp Fiction at it's Worst
Review: It is a shame that there is not some way to filter out all the Star Trek, Halo, Warcraft.....and other fictional garbage from Amazon lists. It's infuriating to see these inane, childish books on the same lists as Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clark, Ray Bradbury.....and other actual writers. The fact that there are thousands of these garbage fiction books is a testament to the total lack of imagination of the modern human mind. Books based on TV series and games! What a waste of our paper resources. Actually, the best use for these books is to be recycled and something of greater quality printed on the new paper.

Review Summary: Wonderful!
Review: An absolutely beautiful and deep character study. You don't have to be a Trekie to enjoy it.

Review Summary: Robinson shows he is as gifted as an author as he is at acting.
Review: The book was well written and Robinson's knowledge of the lead seems so very authentic.
He created an entire backstory that blends in very well with the DS9 series. It makes watching the show in syndication even more fun, especially when Robinson is on, because it's like you, the viewer is in, on the secret.
I look forward to seeing more of his work, be it as an actor or as a writer.

Review Summary: A wonderful book all DS9 fans should read
Review: Having enjoyed DS9 and having heard about this book through Memory Alpha, I noticed all the positive reviews and decided to give it a shot. It was well worth it, the book is completely engrossing and a joy to read. I wish Robinson would write a sequel.
