Review Summary: A fun summer read!
Review: How can humans survive and prosper 1500 feet below the earth's surface? Jules Verne successfully weaves a dark yet magnificent story set in a coal mine, deep within a cavern world. Life in the mine is peaceful, with its beautiful lake and attractive homes. Yet there lurks an evil presence in the form of the Harfang owl, and fire maidens who dwell in the ruined castle. Unexplainable, malicious, and life threatening occurrences begin.

Review Summary: An underground treat
Review: Most people having heard of Jules Verne will probably stick with the well knowns of Journey to the centre of the Earth or 20,000 leagues. However those willing to take a chance on some of the lesser known Verne novels should definately consider The Underground City.
This wonderful tale of community and mystery draws you in to it's Scottish steampunk backdrop as our heroes, James Starr and Harry Ford, uncover romance and supernatural adventure.
Translated by Sarah Crozier with an informative and insightful foreword from Professor Ian Thompson, which describes Jules Vernes love affair with the region.
